“You done good”
Aaah, gifsets like this make me realize things that I hadn’t noticed in the show, even after so many times of seeing the same scenes over and over again. Do you guys see this? Cas listens to just about everything Dean says. He doesn’t second-guess a thing; when Dean asks, Cas delivers, right there on the spot.
When Dean says “Capiche?” Cas agrees; he gives up an inherent, natural, angelic action because Dean asked to.
When Dean tells him to listen to Sam and watch him for how to “properly interrogate”, Cas sucks it up and learns.
Dean asks if he can lift an anvil; Cas looks at him like “are you serious rn” but does it anyway.
Dean says no flirting; Next moment he’s being hit on and his eyes flick straight to Dean.
Dean asks him to go with Sam and find Fred; he does so.
Dean lets him heal the guy who was shot; he does.
Dean wants him to talk; Cas opens up.
It’s ridiculous. I mean, I think Sam questions Cas once, but if Cas is ever with Sam, the dynamic is totally changed; Cas is in charge and in control, at least to the point that Sam cannot change his mind. He becomes his own angel, or he listens only to himself. But with Dean, it’s not so much subordinance as it is straight-up obedience. He trusts Dean to make the right move in a situation. Because Dean has proven himself trustworthy, and if Cas had only listened to him in the past, maybe they wouldn’t have had so many things happen to them.
But there it is.
Anyway, this got rambly, but I think it really is amazing how strongly Cas is connected to Dean. This angel is still giving himself over to this guy 100%, and wants the best for Dean 1000%. He shows it by listening intently to what Dean wants and acting on it. But he’s still trying to be himself and make his own decisions and understand his own limitations- and make those limitations known to Dean (“If I see what I did to that place, I just might kill myself”). And it’s all just a lot of feels about their dynamic and their relationship and I love it so~.
I think Cas often feels lost with free will and that’s why he looks for guidance. And he trusts Dean to guide him and make the right choices. I remember Misha once saying that Cas envied Dean’s decisiveness, which kinda implies that Cas wants to be like him.
